MEASURING YOUR DOG
WHY MEASURE?
Length, girth, chest width, waist, sex, fur, ear and tail type all inform the fit. Mixed breeds often do not conform to standard sizing. Even within breeds there is a significant variation in body size, weight and proportion. Just like you - your dog will love clothes that fit well and won’t want to wear clothes that don’t fit. A durable, functional fit requires accurate measurements.
HOW TO MEASURE
The way you approach your dog when you measure them will greatly influence the accuracy of your measurements. Not to mention setting the stage for wearing coats and robes if this is a new experience for your pooch.
Use a fabric tape measure. Show them the tape before you begin measuring. Let them smell it. Talk sweet. Tell them what you are doing. Ask them to help you. They will.
Your friend needs to be calmly standing up. Don’t “sneak attack” and try and measure if they are lounging or squirming.
Take measurements twice to confirm you have been accurate.
There should be “1 finger” (about 1/2 inch) of ease between the tape measure and your Fido. With high fur friends allow 1 inch of ease or more depending upon the length and density of fur.
